Sakata's Sweet Melon seeds
Sakata's sweet melon is a Japanese heirloom that has been reintroduced in markets in more recent years. This variety was grown in Japan and China for thousands of years. It has recently been rebranded and renamed Sakata's sweet melon. The melons are softball-sized and will start light green to almost white, but mature into a yellow color. This melon is distinct in that it isn't round, but a little misshapen. The bottom has a "notch" similar to how a buttercup squash has on the bottom. The skin is extremely thin, so there is no need to cut or peel it away. The melon looks extremely close to honeydew and tastes very similar as well. The flesh is crisper and grainier and not as soft as the honeydew, but it is said to be much sweeter and slightly floral. These melons are perfect for trellising due to their small size. Each melon can fit in the palm of your hand. These can be grown in containers, along fences, etc.
