Love Lies Bleeding Amaranth seeds
Love Lies Bleeding is an older decorative heirloom. In the Victorian era, it is said that giving a blood long of these was so symbolic that a card or words weren't needed. The long red grain-laden blooms symbolized dripping blood and giving these to someone represented undying devotion.
Dramatics aside, nowadays this variety is grown as a stunning ornamental plant. The blooms harness an edible grain that can be eaten similar to cereal and the leaves are highly nutritious and edible. These grow up to 50 inches tall and should be grown as an annual or a short-lived perennial. These are container friendly. They do tolerate drought and heat but they still prefer moisture-rich soil.
