Genmaicha Tea: Loose Leaf Green Tea With Toasted Brown Rice

My personal favorite! Originating in Japan, Genmaicha tea, often called "popcorn tea," is a unique and beloved green tea. Traditionally created as a more affordable tea for the masses, it is made by blending green tea leaves, most often Bancha or Sencha, with toasted and popped brown rice kernels. The result is a surprisingly delightful combination of flavors and aromas.

The toasted rice adds a nutty, almost popcorn-like aroma and a slightly sweet flavor to the grassy and sometimes astringent notes of green tea. Some Genmaicha varieties also include matcha powder for an extra boost of umami flavor and a vibrant green hue. Whether enjoyed hot or cold, Genmaicha is a comforting and flavorful tea, offering a unique experience for both seasoned tea drinkers and newcomers alike.
