Corsican gourd seeds
Corsican gourds are so much fun to grow and once dried, have several practical uses! These differ from other gourds as they have a flattened, oblong, drum-type shape to them.
These are believed to have first been grown in Zimbabwe. They were dried and used for bowls initially. Nowadays, you can grow these and use wood-burning tools for illustrations on the outside, carve them, paint them, drill intricate designs in them, etc. Your imagination is the only limitation on what to do with these! A google search online will show beautiful illustrations and paintings. An image we saw online showed a gorgeous lamp that was made from carving and drilling designs into the gourd, allowing beautiful shapes to be cast on the surrounding walls.
The vines for these can reach 20ft - 30ft. Each gourd will reach 6"- 10" around, with an average depth of 3.5"- 5" deep. For this variety, they do grow better on a trellis. When they are on the ground, the shape can become a-symmetrical. Letting these hang as they grow helps make for a round eye-pleasing gourd.
