Kogiku (Kongigu) Pumpkin seeds
Kogiku or Kongigu, Japanese heirloom variety is enjoying a new resurgence among foodies and gardeners alike. The Kogiku (also pronounced Kongigu) is part of the cucurbit family and is very similar to the Black Futsu pumpkin.
The Kogiku starts as a deep dark green with smooth skin and will ripen to a tan-orange color with bumpy skin, thick ribs, and a waxy outer bloom on its exterior. The flavor has been described as fruity, sweet, and nutty with thick, dense finely grained flesh.
Suggested usage for this variety is to be halved and baked, or eaten raw, especially in salads. Each vine will produce 1-2 lb fruits. Due to their smaller nature, these are ideal for trellising or container gardening as well as traditional raised beds or mounds/rows.
